About Us 🚀: Immutable is the world's fastest-growing game platform, built to power the next generation of games. We sit at the intersection of AI-driven analytics, high-performance growth tools and seamless digital ownership, helping studios attract, engage and scale player communities across both Web2 and Web3. Founded in 2018, we're one of the fastest Australian companies to reach unicorn status, raising more than AUD $400M+ at a valuation of AUD $3.5B. Today more than 700 games build on Immutable, and industry leaders like Ubisoft have chosen us as their partner for the future of gaming. Immutable Audience, our newest product line, is the fastest-growing SaaS in our history. We're scaling fast, and that's the fun part. 🚀

About The Role 🤔: We're hiring a Head of Legal to lead the full spectrum of regulatory and product advisory work as well as work across Commercial and Corporate matters with the Legal Risk and Compliance (LRC) team as we scale our SaaS business.

You'll lead the full spectrum of regulatory and product advisory work: privacy, financial services, AML/CTF, online safety, AI and the emerging requirements that shape our products and go-to-market.

You'll work directly with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Commercial, Growth and Group to help Immutable move quickly while staying thoughtful and responsible. And you'll partner closely with Operations to bring AI and automation into how legal actually gets delivered.

This suits a Sydney-based senior in-house counsel who operates with autonomy, judgement and pace, and who can turn complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, practical advice: what teams can do, what they can't, and what happens next.

This is a snapshot of what you'll pick up from day one. Like everything at a scale-up, it'll evolve.

What Makes This Role Different ✨

You'll design a modern LRC operating model from scratch, including AI-enabled workflows that put our legal function at the genuine front of how in-house teams work. Not a legacy function to tend, a new one to shape.

You'll get breadth most in-house roles never offer: privacy, financial services, digital assets, AML/CTF, AI regulation and online safety, all live at once, all at pace.

You'll have autonomy and direct access to our Founders and Executive, with the mandate to influence how the whole business moves.

If you want to be the person who defines what great looks like rather than inheriting it, this is the role.

What you’ll own 🎮: We're looking for a high-performing generalist who has worked in a fast-growing, agile legal function with exposure across the full breadth of legal. Deep product and regulatory specialisation is a bonus, not a prerequisite. If you've got generalist strength and the appetite to go deep, we want to hear from you. In this role you'll:

Own privacy end to end: Data collection, use and storage, associated policies and procedures, and privacy-by-design advice across product, marketing consents and data sharing

Advise on the regulatory landscape that shapes our products: Financial services and payments, stored value and digital assets, AML/CTF, sanctions, online safety and emerging AI law, and support the controls that follow

Partner with Senior Leaders, Exec & Founders across Product, Engineering, Growth and Commercial to spot legal and regulatory risk early, before it becomes a blocker

Support existing LRC team on Commercial & Corporate legal matters, including bespoke B2B contracting, negotiations and IP. You will also have exposure to Board reporting and corporate governance.

Get ahead of regulatory change by identifying impact early and turning it into clear, actionable plans

Support product and marketing compliance across customer-facing content, lifecycle communications and campaigns

Give non-legal teams decision-ready advice focused on options and next steps, not long-form memos

Instruct and manage external counsel, including scope, timelines and budget discipline

Build a modern, efficient LRC function using AI, templates, playbooks, self-serve guidance and lightweight process

Become a trusted partner who can influence senior stakeholders toward sound, practical outcomes

You’re a match if you have 🤝: 7 to 10 years PQE, an Australian practising certificate, and you can advise on Australian legal and regulatory requirements

You're a high-performing generalist from a fast-moving, agile legal function, and you're energised by going deep on new domains rather than intimidated by them. Deep product and regulatory specialisation is a bonus here, not a prerequisite

You've got privacy experience: product privacy, data protection, marketing consent, privacy by design, cross-border data and privacy risk management. Familiarity with both the Australian framework and GDPR is a plus

You've worked in-house at a scale-up, fintech, tech company or regulated business where autonomy, judgement and speed were the norm

You turn complex legal and regulatory concepts into clear, commercial, usable advice. People understand you the first time

You're risk aware, not risk averse

You love working alongside engineers, PMs and commercial teams, and you thrive when things move fast

You're collaborative and happy to flex across generalist and specialist work in a lean team, including covering during periods of leave
