EEMC Production Planning Engineer
Job purpose
Join the Engine Maintenance Centre, a cutting-edge maintenance facility where we deliver exceptional maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the engines of Emirates’ fleets. Our integrated team excels in engine technical services (ETS), propulsion planning and logistics, and more, all within our advanced engine shops and test cell. With a strong commitment to quality and safety, we streamline processes to strip, inspect, and rebuild engines seamlessly in one state-of-the-art location. Join us to be part of a team where precision and excellence drive every operation.
As a production planning engineer at EEMC, you will manage end-to-end production planning activities for your assigned area, including work package preparation, estimation, dock control, and workshop or check planning. You will use your aircraft and component technical expertise to review work packages, including up to A checks, landing gear changes, and ad hoc maintenance inputs; develop accurate estimates; and produce effective check or workshop plans.
You will continuously review and adjust plans based on findings during execution to support delivery against agreed targets and budgets. Working closely with stakeholders across the engineering organisation, you will coordinate planning requirements, provide guidance to your assigned team, and contribute to projects focused on improving PPC processes and deliverables.
In this role, you will:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the planning officers and supervisors reporting to you.
- Lead assigned projects to continuously improve the production planning department and the service provided to operations.
- Continuously review cross-utilisation of resources with PPEs in other PPC areas.
Preparation and closure
- Manage the technical review of all tasks that may be called up by maintenance planning. Ensure the review identifies task intent, special requirements (jacking, defueling, repairs, shop input, test flights, etc.), dependencies, required materials and tooling, new supporting task cards, and any other information that will aid the planning process. Ensure all issues identified during the technical review are followed up with the relevant departments and resolved before each input begins.
- Manage all materials and tools required for planned inputs in base maintenance. Ensure the required MQ adjustment is made based on known component and task plans, and that duplicate materials are identified before input.
- Ensure the work package for each input is printed, segregated, and complete in accordance with agreed SLAs and quality standards before each maintenance input.
- Manage the work package closure audit process to ensure the team follows defined WIs and auditing standards. Ensure 100% of tasks are audited before the CRS and that work package closure is completed in UM within agreed SLAs.
- Coordinate with third parties and internal departments, including workshops, GSE, docking, and ETS, to alert them to work assigned to them based on published workflow plans for each input.
- Create, review, and approve maintenance facilitation tasks to support planned maintenance execution.
Dock control
- Manage the daily allocation of work to production in conjunction with the shift manager and resource planning team. Ensure all tools, materials, and resources are available to deliver the planned work, and monitor resources to ensure the check is delivered within the allocated man-hour and material budgets.
- Maintain the check workflow plan to reflect current check progress and the planned finish date. Revise workflow plans as required to reflect critical findings and their impact on the critical path.
- Provide daily reports highlighting check progress in terms of tasks, manpower, and material costs.
- Ensure any threat to or lag in check progress is highlighted in time for mitigation measures to be adopted.
- Review non-routine findings to identify critical items that may affect the critical path, man-hour budget, and key check milestones. Ensure a plan is in place for these critical findings.
- Oversee the audit of completed check work packs and cards. Ensure the CRS is released to production only after confirming that all cards have been completed or deferred in accordance with the EPM.
- Provide progressive and post-check information to ensure an efficient and effective feedback process for all relevant stakeholders. Ensure reasons for deviations from plans and budgets are understood and explained.
- Act as the key focal point for planning issues between operations and other stakeholders during check execution, including FTM, repairs process, SDG, aircraft scheduling, logistics, facilities, and workshops.
Check planning
- Conduct a work pack review of maintenance events to identify task intent, special requirements (jacking, defueling, repairs, shop input, test flights, etc.), dependencies, required materials and tooling, new supporting task cards, and any other information that will aid the planning process.
- Develop a detailed daily workload plan and review it with the relevant production teams to ensure effective workload balancing. Identify and plan the minimum ground time for each maintenance input.
- Lead daily review meetings to discuss upcoming packages and inputs and finalise the daily check plan. Obtain agreement from all stakeholders on the accomplishment plan. Ensure all issues identified during these reviews are followed up and addressed before input.
Estimation
- Produce a detailed man-hour estimate report for each input, ensuring correctness and accuracy to support workflow and manpower planning.
- Ensure the fleet-wide task estimation database is up to date, with step-by-step man-hour details and information on impacts to the production workflow plan for routine and non-routine tasks.
- After each completed input, review the man-hour analysis for correctness and accuracy. Maintain the technical integrity of the estimation database through ongoing analysis of production performance, including clocking and man-hour utilisation.
- Study first-time and complex maintenance tasks and modifications by liaising with production LAEs and observing the work as required to determine accurate man-hours by trade and critical step.
- Create facilitation cards as required by the work package and production needs, including facility and check activities, to support planned maintenance execution.
- Review engagement standards based on the latest actual events to forecast and prepare the annual man-hour budget for maintenance inputs.
- Review fleet-wide defect analysis and trend monitoring to determine the technical impact on future layovers, including non-routine estimation and manpower allocation, taking into consideration check type, age, and in-service issues.
Workshop
- Provide guidance on the daily allocation of work to production in conjunction with the shift manager or shop focal point to meet workflow milestones and targets. Ensure all tools and materials are available to deliver the planned work, and monitor resources to ensure the workload is delivered within the allocated man-hour budget.
- Provide daily reports highlighting check or workload progress in terms of work orders, tasks, and manpower.
- Ensure any threat to or lag in workload progress is highlighted in time for mitigation measures to be adopted.
- Maintain engine workflow plans and ensure they adapt to check or workload findings and any impact on the critical path. Liaise with the dock PPE, MSM, or workshop manager and publish an agreed recovery plan.
- Ensure a plan is in place for critical findings that may affect parts release. Ensure all EERs are reflected in the ETS dashboard and follow up as necessary to obtain responses on time.
- Provide estimation support to the production organisation, ensuring a detailed understanding of the resources required for each maintenance activity. Ensure the database is updated regularly.
- Produce the annual man-hour budget for the business based on projected workloads and other business drivers. Review it monthly to support effective demand and resource planning.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (aeronautical, mechanical, or electrical), or a GCAA or EASA engineering licence with a type rating on an Emirates fleet aircraft.
- At least five years of relevant engineering experience in aircraft maintenance or production planning within an airline or third-party maintenance or MRO facility.
- Good knowledge of aircraft systems, power plants, and components.
- Thorough understanding of aircraft regulatory requirements and maintenance documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of ULTRAMAIN is an advantage.
- Excellent people management skills.
