SHOP SUPERVISOR

We operate neighbourhood “alternative stops” that combine convenience and hardware supplies for everyday home needs. Our stores stock basic cleaning and personal-care items, and a selection of light hardware and home-maintenance products. We focus on friendly service, practical product advice, and safe handling of heavier items for in-store customers and pickups.

Role overview

We are looking for a reliable, hands-on Shop Supervisor to oversee daily store operations, lead and coach a small team, maintain inventory and merchandising standards, and assist with receiving and moving heavier stock. The role requires regular weekend work and the physical ability to lift and carry heavy items as part of routine duties.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily store operations and ensure high standards of customer service.
• Lead, train and motivate store staff; assist with shift rostering and monitor attendance.
• Receive deliveries, check and store goods, and perform stock counts and replenishment.
• Move, lift and secure heavier hardware and household items for storage, displays and customer pickups (regular lifting required; safe lifting practices must be followed).
• Operate POS systems, handle cash and complete basic daily administrative tasks and reports.
• Maintain store cleanliness, safety and loss prevention measures; enforce safe handling procedures.
• Assist customers with product advice for basic hardware and household needs; resolve enquiries and complaints professionally.
• Report incidents, maintenance needs and inventory discrepancies to the Store/Operations Manager.

Requirements (essential)

• Minimum 2 year retail or supervisory experience (hardware, convenience or home-goods retail preferred).
• Physically fit and able to lift and carry heavy items as required by the role. (Specify in your application if you have any lifting limitations.)
• Willingness to work weekends and public holidays on a rostered basis.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills; reliable and punctual.
• Basic numeracy and proficiency with POS systems and common retail software.
• Ability to read and communicate in English; other languages are an advantage.

Desirable

• Prior experience in hardware or home-maintenance retail.
• Basic workplace safety or manual handling training/certification.
