Education:

Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry.

Tasks:

• Diagnose diseases and physiological disorders.
• Diagnose psychiatric disorders.
• Prescribe medication and treatment .
• Treat diseases and physiological disorders .

• Advise patients on health care.
• Prescribe and administer medications and treatments.
• Be the patient advocate.
• Participate in health care policy and planning.
• Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health.

• Co-ordinate or manage primary patient care.
• Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues.
• Provide emergency care.

• Help patients develop healthy habits, break old habits and reshape their approach to wellness.
• Examine patients' health condition to identify diseases and injuries .
• Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals.

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses :

• Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC).
• Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE I and MCCQE II).
• Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification Examination.
• Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities.
