Structural Steel Quality Inspector Job Type: Contract to Hire Shift: 1st Shift Starting Pay: From $32.00/hour (Higher pay available based on experience) Professional Summary We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Quality Inspector to help maintain quality standards throughout the fabrication process. This hands-on role focuses on inspecting fabricated steel components, welds, coatings, and materials to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and industry requirements. The ideal candidate has experience in structural steel fabrication, understands welding codes, and is committed to producing high-quality work in a manufacturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities Inspect structural steel components throughout fabrication to verify quality and workmanship.

Confirm compliance with project specifications and applicable standards, including AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC requirements.

Examine incoming materials, parts, and consumables to ensure they meet required specifications.

Record inspection findings and maintain accurate quality reports and documentation.

Identify, label, and track inspected materials in accordance with established quality procedures.

Calibrate and maintain welding equipment along with inspection and measuring tools.

Support welder qualification and certification activities.

Assist with training related to welding practices, fitting procedures, inspection methods, and quality requirements.

Maintain drawing control and support documentation used throughout the quality process.

Work closely with production personnel and leadership to investigate quality concerns and improve manufacturing processes.

Participate in continuous improvement efforts while promoting a safe work environment.

Required Qualifications Minimum of two years of experience in structural steel fabrication.

Previous experience in quality control, quality assurance, inspection, or a similar manufacturing role.

Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.

Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.

Experience using quality inspection equipment, including:

Fillet weld gauges

V-WAC gauges

Squares

Tape measures

Standard welding and fabrication inspection tools

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, accuracy, and workplace safety.

Preferred Qualifications Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.

Experience performing or assisting with Nondestructive Testing (NDT) , including:

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Penetrant Testing (PT)

Additional certifications related to structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, bolting, or protective coatings.

Previous experience in a structural steel fabrication or manufacturing environment.

Work Environment Primarily a shop-floor role with limited office responsibilities.

Manufacturing environment with varying temperatures.

Frequent standing, walking, and performing inspections throughout the workday.
