Your mission The Country Director will be KAYA’s leader in Tanzania.  They will be a sub-Entrepreneur who will help build KAYA’s portfolio of conservation and restoration projects in a landscape over more than five million hectares.  In this process, they will soon be helming a regional organisation of over fifty employees.  They will be KAYA’s ambassador in the eastern African region.  They will work very closely with the Co-founders in building the organisational brand and business strategy.  From skills, they should be an environmentalist with a business acumen and experience of working in environmental markets. Your responsibilities Lead the organisational set-up process and thereafter account for all business operations in the country   Build and the lead the Operations, Legal, Finance and Human Resource teams   Maintain an overview of all the projects in the four abovementioned teams and review closely the most critical ones   Identify landscapes and collate supporting information in close cooperation with the Chief Climate Officer for new project development   Work with the Co-founders in ensuring smooth cooperation between Tanzania Office teams and the Berlin Head Office teams   Be the organisation’s liaison to the government and public offices in the country for the relevant matters   Ensure high standards in organisational compliance to matters of law, finance and integrity   Work with the Co-founders in positioning the organisation in the region and represent it in working groups, regional conferences, associations, and among sectorial peers Your profile Over five years of experience leading country or regional programmes in environmental work   Experience of leading multiple teams while having a strong understanding of the duties of those teams   Experience in financial planning and executive reporting   Experience in networking and positioning at multiple levels   Ability to relate with and manage relationships with government at federal and local levels   Familiarity with market-based conservation and restoration programmes, like carbon market, biodiversity protection mechanisms, and commodity supply chain conservation mechanisms, is desirable.   Willingness to be based in Arusha or a mutually agreed location in Tanzania   Willingness to travel internationally, both in Africa and outside   Openness to co-creating structures, processes and culture at a start-up while being patient through the developmental phase   Possibility to contact former employers   In addition to English fluency, working proficiency in French and Swahili is desired   Experience of working in eastern Africa is desirable and experience of working in Tanzania is a plus   Higher education in environment and social studies is a plus What we offer Offer of a job with purpose   Opportunity to work for the planet and people   Opportunity to learn about climate change mitigation and adaptation from first-hand experience   Global exposure through international colleagues and intercontinental work travel   Possibility to become part of an organisation in its developmental phase   Chance to experience life in Tanzania   Please send us your latest CV along with a summary on why you would like to work at KAYA.
