Position Overview

The Product Consultant is a senior, customer facing role responsible for guiding clients through product selection, technical considerations, and order execution within their assigned product category. This role blends product expertise, consultative selling, and operational precision to deliver an exceptional client experience from initial engagement through estimate and quote delivery.

Product Consultants are accountable for accurate estimating and/or quoting, clear communication, and smooth handoffs , working closely with Design Center leadership, Coordinators, Outside Sales, vendors, and operations teams. While category expertise may vary, the expectations for professionalism, ownership, and execution remain consistent across all Product Consultants.

Core Responsibilities

Client Engagement & Sales

Engage clients with confidence and professionalism, identifying needs through active listening and thoughtful questions

Provide expert guidance on product options, compatibility, design considerations, and general installation implications

Prepare accurate quotes, estimates, and special-order documentation within expected turn times

Deliver a high touch, consultative experience aligned with Design Center standards

Product Expertise

Maintain deep working knowledge of assigned product categories, including specifications, options, limitations, and lead times

Interpret drawings, measurements, and technical documents with accuracy

Stay current on vendor offerings, product updates, and industry trends

Clearly explain technical information in a client friendly, approachable manner

Operational Excellence

Process quotes/estimates/orders with precision, ensuring accuracy in pricing, quantities, specifications, and documentation

Review vendor requirements and specifications prior to order submission to prevent rework or delays

Coordinate with purchasing, warehouse, fabrication, and installation partners as needed

Support inventory checks, sample management, and returns when applicable

Maintain showroom displays to ensure accuracy, cleanliness, and visual appeal

Cross Functional Collaboration

Partner closely with the Design Center Coordinator to ensure smooth client handoffs and follow-up

Maintain strong collaboration with Outside Sales to support leads, selections, and project transitions

Communicate clearly when information is incomplete or additional details are required

Provide backup support across product categories during peak periods or coverage gaps, as needed

Problem Solving & Issue Resolution

Troubleshoot product questions, order discrepancies, and technical issues with professionalism and urgency

Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues efficiently

Communicate transparently with clients regarding timelines, changes, and order status

Qualifications & Experience

Experience in a customer facing sales or consulting role within building materials, home products, or a related industry

Strong technical aptitude and ability to interpret product specifications and documentation

Excellent communication and organizational skills

High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Comfortable working in a fast paced, consultative showroom environment

Willingness to deepen expertise in assigned categories and support others as needed
