Associate Director, Mechanical Engineer
Skal:LeadHybrid
Role Overview
- Act as Zerra DC's in-house mechanical systems expert, providing specialist technical support on mechanical solutions across the APAC region.
- Serve as a central mechanical engineering resource, supporting the Product, Customer Solutions, and Design Delivery pillars throughout the asset lifecycle.
- Contribute to mechanical design standards, technical benchmarks, and quality expectations applied consistently across all APAC markets.
Product Pillar
- Support development of the mechanical reference design for Zerra DC's data centre product portfolio, including cooling architecture, heat rejection strategy, and mechanical plant configuration.
- Assess emerging cooling technologies (liquid cooling, hybrid systems, high-density air) and provide recommendations on adoption aligned with hyperscale and AI workload requirements.
- Support the development of standardised mechanical specifications, equipment shortlists, and performance criteria to drive consistency and efficiency across campuses.
- Partner with the Product team on capacity planning, PUE/WUE targets, and total cost of ownership analysis for mechanical systems.
Customer Solutions Pillar
- Help translate customer technical requirements (hyperscalers, AI tenants, enterprise) into deliverable mechanical solutions, including bespoke cooling and density configurations.
- Support sales and solutioning teams in customer engagements, technical workshops, and RFP responses involving mechanical system design.
- Provide review and technical input on customer-specific mechanical scope, deviation requests, and compliance against contractual SLA and performance commitments.
- Provide mechanical input into commercial proposals, ensuring solutions are technically sound, deliverable, and commercially viable.

Design Delivery Pillar
- Support mechanical design execution across concurrent APAC projects, working with local engineering consultants, EPC contractors, and equipment vendors.
- Provide guidance to ensure mechanical designs comply with regional codes, energy efficiency regulations, and authority approval processes specific to each jurisdiction (Australia, Japan, India, and other APAC markets).
- Contribute to design review cycles, value engineering, and constructability assessments for mechanical scope across projects.
- Help identify and manage mechanical design risks, long-lead equipment strategy, and interface coordination between mechanical, electrical, and architectural disciplines through to commissioning and handover.
Experience, Skills and Competencies
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications advantageous.
- 12+ years of experience in mechanical systems design and delivery for mission-critical facilities, with significant exposure to hyperscale or large-scale data centres.
- Demonstrated expertise across data centre cooling architectures, including chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH, evaporative cooling, direct liquid cooling, and rear-door heat exchangers.
- Strong technical command of mechanical plant design — chillers, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs, BMS controls, and associated heat rejection strategies.
- Direct experience delivering mechanical scope across at least two APAC markets (Australia, Japan, India, Singapore, Korea, or similar), including familiarity with local codes and authority approval processes.
- Proficiency with mechanical design and analysis tools (e.g. Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, CFD platforms, hydraulic modelling software) and standards such as ASHRAE TC 9.9, IEC, and ISO.
- Proven ability to act as a central technical authority — setting standards, governing design quality, and supporting multiple concurrent projects across business pillars.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; able to engage credibly with customers, consultants, contractors, and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting hyperscale data centre campuses exceeding 100MW total IT load, including high-density AI-ready deployments.
- Chartered or Professional Engineer status (CEng, PE, RPEQ, or equivalent) in an APAC jurisdiction.
- Hands-on experience with liquid cooling deployment, including direct-to-chip and immersion cooling solutions.
- Working knowledge of Japanese, Korean, or other regional languages relevant to AGP's APAC operating markets.
- Prior experience with design-build, EPC, or IPD project delivery models for critical infrastructure.
- Background in mechanical commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), or operational handover for data centres.
