Head of Production
The Head of Production leads the planning, execution and operational delivery of all projects across Something Special Studios. Responsible for production strategy, delivery excellence, budgeting and operational efficiency, they ensure the studio consistently delivers ambitious creative work on time, on budget and to the highest quality.
Working closely with Client Services, Creative, Spatial, Design and Operations, the Head of Production oversees internal production teams, external vendors and fabrication partners while continuously improving delivery processes and operational performance across a wide range of experiential, retail and content projects.
Responsibilities
Production Leadership
Lead all production across experiential, digital, content and environmental projects
Establish production standards, methodologies and best practices
Oversee project delivery from handoff through implementation
Build scalable production systems that support studio growth
Drive operational excellence across all production disciplines
Project Delivery
Oversee project planning, schedules, budgets and production risks
Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the required quality standards
Lead production reviews and delivery planning across all active work
Resolve production challenges and remove delivery blockers
Ensure strong communication across internal teams and clients
Resource & Vendor Management
Lead full-time and freelance production teams
Build new and manage existing relationships with fabricators, vendors, and specialist partners
Oversee procurement, estimates, and production contracts
Ensure appropriate staffing and resource allocation in partnership with Operations team
Financial Management
Own production budgets and financial performance throughout delivery
Identify opportunities for efficiencies while maintaining quality
Support project scoping and estimating during proposal development
Monitor project profitability alongside Client Services and Finance
Ensuring timely reconciliation of completed projects
Manage production billing and invoices
Improve forecasting and production reporting
Operational Excellence
Develop production workflows and documentation
Introduce tools and systems that improve delivery efficiency
Establish quality assurance processes across production
Drive continuous improvement initiatives
Support studio-wide operational planning
Experience
10+ years leading production within an experiential, design or creative agency
Extensive experience managing complex multidisciplinary projects
Strong knowledge of fabrication, environmental production, digital production and installation
Proven financial and budget management experience
Experience leading production teams and external vendors
Excellent organisational, leadership and communication skills
Salary Range: $180,000 - $200,000 annually. Salary for the prospective employee is determined by a combination of factors that include qualifications, applicable skills, relevant experience and other budgetary considerations such as location/geography.
