Technical Shipping Associate
Salling Search is currently recruiting for a Technical Shipping Associate for a global commodities company with an in-house shipping division.
This is a structured 30-month rotational program designed for seafarers looking to transition into a shore-based shipping career, offering a strong foundation in safety, technical operations and risk management with genuine exposure across the wider shipping business.
Responsibilities
- Develop a strong understanding of the operational and physical risks associated with the company's chartered fleet and shipping operations
- Support the identification, mitigation and management of technical and operational risks
- Gain practical exposure to the company's vetting framework and vessel selection standards
- Build understanding of dry bulk vessel technical operations, ship management and maintenance fundamentals
- Participate in vessel inspections and support Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) engagements where applicable
- Promote the company's safety values and contribute to strengthening safety culture across operations
- Support incident investigations, root cause analysis and preparation of learning shares
- Develop understanding of the chartering safety framework, including accountabilities between shipowner, ship manager and charterer
- Gain exposure to global Safety and Technical desks, including possible rotation opportunities across key locations
- Build understanding of shipowner budgeting, cost control and technical financial management
- Undertake shorter cross-functional rotations across Commercial, Operations, Business Development and Financial Trading to build an end to end understanding of the dry bulk shipping value chain
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, safety performance reviews and business improvement projects
Requirements
- Prior seagoing experience (Deck or Engineering) with an interest in transitioning to a shore-based shipping career
- Strong analytical, organized and responsible working style
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across functions and stakeholders
- Genuine interest in learning the technical, safety and commercial fundamentals of dry bulk global shipping
- Enthusiastic, ambitious and comfortable working in a structured, rotational learning environment
