  • Oversee VAT return preparation and review, monitor bookkeeping accuracy and coordinate payroll processing and client queries.
  • Track VAT, PAYE, corporation tax, Companies House and other statutory deadlines, keeping oversight of outstanding compliance tasks.
  • Coordinate junior staff's workloads, monitor progress, provide feedback, help with routine accounting questions and improve practice processes.

Essential requirements

  • Fully AAT qualified at Level 4, with a minimum of three years' experience in a UK accountancy practice.
  • Sound practical knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, accounts preparation and routine UK accounting and statutory compliance.
  • Experience reviewing accounting records and identifying errors or discrepancies.
  • Confidence communicating directly with clients by telephone and email.
  • Experience using Xero or comparable accounting software.
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines independently in a hybrid environment.
  • A proactive approach to client service, personal accountability and a willingness to support colleagues.

Desirable experience

Client portfolio management, reviewing or supervising junior accountants, Dext or Hubdoc, payroll and workplace pensions, management accounts, and familiarity with corporation tax and personal tax compliance processes would be useful.

Salary is £30,000-£34,000 per annum, depending on experience and suitability. Benefits include hybrid working, 25 days' annual leave plus UK bank holidays, free on-site parking, complimentary office drinks and snacks, a workplace pension scheme and opportunities for professional development and increased responsibility.
