Senior Mechanical Engineer - Data Centre
About the Role
As one of Ireland's most progressive and people-focused building consultancies, we are expanding our team with an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer – Data Centre to support the delivery of major hyperscale data centre developments in Ireland.
This is a unique opportunity to move into a client-facing technical leadership role where your focus is not on producing design drawings, but on ensuring that complex mission-critical infrastructure is designed, constructed and commissioned to the highest standards.
You'll join a multidisciplinary team providing independent technical review, Employer's Representative services, QA/QC oversight, commissioning support and operational readiness services on large-scale data centre developments.
Working directly with developers, contractors, commissioning teams and specialist vendors, you will be a key part of the team protecting design quality, resilience, maintainability and long-term operational performance.
You will provide technical oversight across the full project lifecycle, from design development through construction, commissioning, and handover. Acting as the client's mechanical subject matter expert, you will review designs, identify risks, challenge assumptions, and help ensure mechanical systems are delivered in line with project requirements and operational expectations.
You will work closely with contractors, consultants, commissioning providers, equipment vendors, and client stakeholders to support the successful delivery of mission-critical projects.
Key Responsibilities
Lead independent technical reviews of mission-critical mechanical systems
Review design packages, calculations, specifications, and technical reportsAssess systems for constructability, maintainability, resilience, and operational suitability
Review contractor technical submissions, shop drawings, and method statements
Support the resolution of RFIs and technical queriesParticipate in multidisciplinary design reviews and technical workshops
Carry out site inspections and construction quality reviews
Review commissioning plans and witness key testing activities
Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and commissioning reviews
Support technical risk management and issue resolution
Review as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and project handover documentation
Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and client stakeholders
Essential Requirements
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline
Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
10+ years' experience in building services, mission-critical, data centre, or similar environments
Strong knowledge of:
Chilled water systems
CRAH and AHU systems
Cooling infrastructure
Generator cooling systems
Fuel systems
Ventilation and exhaust systems
BMS integration
Commissioning processes
Experience reviewing contractor designs, technical submissions, and engineering documentation
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
Ability to build effective working relationships with contractors, consultants, commissioning teams, and client stakeholders
Desirable Requirements
Experience delivering data centre projects
Experience participating in FAT, SAT, and IST activities
QA/QC or Employer's Representative experience
Experience working within hyperscale or colocation environments
Operational readiness or commissioning experience
